Pre & Post Op Instructions |
PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMPLANTS/BONE GRAFTS
1. Eat before procedure.
2. Start taking antibiotic 3 days before surgery and continue
until all have been taken.
3. If you are being pre-medicated with Ativan, take as
prescribed and you will need a driver to bring & pick you up
from your appointment. You are not to drive for 24 hours after
taking the Ativan. You will be sleepy the day of procedure and
grogginess can continue the following morning. The next day you
most likely will not remember very much or anything about the
previous days appointment. This is expected.
4. If having a bone graft placed, you can expect to have pain
in this area for the next 2-3 days. If needed, a prescription
for pain medication will be given to you.
5. Have soft foods on hand to eat for after the procedure
i.e.: eggs, fish, protein drinks like Ensure, yogurt and soups
(not too hot though).
6. If you are on a blood thinner, after consulting your
physician, Dr Kerr may ask you to go off it prior to surgery.
Please do so as instructed by Dr Kerr. A blood test the day
before surgery may be needed to test your bleed rate. If you are
